Work placement programme and college presentation for National Apprentice Week

Well done to James Brown MCIOB, MAPM for engaging with future apprentices this week as a guest lecturer for construction and engineering students at Tyne Metropolitan College‘s Tyne Coast campus where we currently have 4 teams working concurrently to refurbish the construction and engineering blocks. James’s presentation gave 50 young people an insight into our sector of the industry, showing them videos of the projects we work on, explaining the breadth of skills needed and the many career opportunities available to them within construction.

James commented; “It was great to take part in one of the college lectures as this really gave context to the work experience programme the kids are doing with us – we are currently welcoming as many of the pupils as possible to our site at Tyne Coast while we’re there and it’s going really well.”

Meaningful work experience placements are crucial to helping young people work out which trade is right for them, and seem to result in far better retention rates for apprenticeships and trades in general. So, having such an interesting project ongoing with a ready supply of keen candidates to hand, we’re delighted to have such a convenient opportunity to contribute positively to the future of our industry.
