Converting a former sealant warehouse into a training facility for the North East Ambulance Service

In an industrial estate in Washington, a warehouse formerly used by a sealant company been transformed by site manager Ged Murphy and team at McCarrick Construction into training facility and proactive emergency simulation suite for NEAS teaching staff and trainees.

Ged’s main body of work was a 350m2 complex of new classrooms, offices, corridors, a shower room, WC’s and a staff dining rooms which were constructed to one side of the original large warehouse space to fit the specific training requirements of the client. Two existing offices were also stripped and fully renovated with glazed managers offices and staff kitchenette. Ged oversaw the construction of the partition walls, a new ceiling grid throughout, heating and lighting installations, plumbing, joinery, plastering and decorating, fire doors installation, practical new carpeting in the classrooms and offices and medical grade vinyl flooring elsewhere.

Outside this area but still within the remaining warehouse, our team also built and plumbed three useful ancillary rooms for washing and disinfecting medical equipment during training.

Ged’s outstanding project management experience and unwavering commitment to detail has been instrumental in transforming this unremarkable warehouse into a useful and inspiring training centre, which will be used to simulate emergency scenarios and to train paramedics to deal with the changing nature of incidents.
