This summer we were pleased to take on a variety of tasks for Durham Wildlife Trust, helping them to rejuvenate several areas of their Visitor Centre at Low Barns, west of Bishop Auckland. One of the region’s most important wildlife sites, Low Barns has been under Durham Wildlife Trust’s management since 1964 and from its acquisition as farmland it is now so rich in wildlife that it has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Following extensive refurbishments financed by local wildlife charities and carried out by McCarrick Construction, the Low Barns Visitor Centre can now be enjoyed and supported by more visitors than ever. They will benefit from the newly fitted kitchen serving the cafe, a new paved outdoor seating area, a sturdy new steel staircase up to the viewing area and an education room for school trips and other interested groups to make use of. We also installed a bi-fold door to the rear of the cafe to enable nature-loving visitors to take full advantage of the views and sounds of wildlife, whatever the weather.

Well worth a visit.
